Olsalazine Sodium [ Dipentum ]

Olsalazine is a derivative of salicylic acid. Inactive by itself, it is converted by the bacteria in the colon to mesalamine. Mesalamine works as an anti-inflammatory agent in treating inflammatory diseases of the intestines like Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Click for more information on mesalamine. Olsalazine Sodium is marketed as Dipentum. Dipentum is an anti-inflammatory drug used to maintain long-term freedom from symptoms of ulcerative colitis (chronic inflammation and ulceration of the large intestine and rectum). It is prescribed for people who cannot take sulfasalazine (Azulfidine). If you have kidney disease, Dipentum could cause further damage. You'll need regular checks on your kidney function, so be sure to keep all regular appointments with your doctor. You should keep taking the medication ( with food), as long as your doctor directs, even if you feel better.
